Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Definitive Comparison (2023)
ClickUp and Dubsado are apps that specialize in two different aspects of business management.
Dubsado is a general business management tool designed to manage repetitive administration tasks and automate customer journeys. Meanwhile, ClickUp is a general project management tool: best for large teams looking to streamline internal processes and complex, inter-departmental projects.
I added Anywhere to the mix because it serves customers that otherwise wouldn't find much success with neither Dubsado or ClickUp. Anywhere is a specialized project management tool for service-based solopreneurs, agencies, and small businesses who also want client management features to keep their client in the loop.
First, I compared the tools by three main use cases:
- Project Management
- Customer Relationship Management
- Workflow Automation
I then explored supporting features like collaboration & communication, templates, and integrations.
Let’s see how they measure up: Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere.
Comparison Summary: Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere
What is Dubsado?
“Supercharge your business” 💼🚀
Founded in 2016 by husband and wife Jake and Becca Berg, Dubsado was created with the aim of developing an efficient, paperless system to manage the operations of Becca’s photography business.
Since then, Dubsado evolved into an app that automates all repetitive business admin tasks. With Dubsado, you can build a timely and personalized onboarding, management, and offboarding experience for your clients, while easily managing all your records in one place — including proposals, contracts, and invoices. Dubsado also offers users the ability to schedule appointments and accept automatic payments.
Dubsado doesn’t have the essential project management features that most businesses require. But its business management features make it ideal for solopreneurs and companies who want to enhance the client experience and streamline business operations.
What is ClickUp?
"Jack of all trades" 🤹
ClickUp.com was co-founded in 2017 by Alex Yurkowski and Zeb Evans because they got tired of project management across multiple apps while building a Craigslist competitor. So they set out to build a tool that could do it all.
It offers great customization through a variety of custom fields, project views, and widgets for creating highly visual dashboards. It also comes with many templates, integrations, and task automation samples to simplify your workflow. Beyond project management, ClickUp also has extra features such as Docs, Whiteboards, and others to support team productivity. It tries to do it all, which unintentionally makes it very complex to set up and get started, especially for users without technical knowledge.
All of this means ClickUp is an extremely powerful productivity platform. But, because of the complexity, it’s best for enterprises with large teams who need to handle internal business processes and also collaborate on complex, inter-departmental projects.
What is Anywhere?
"Make your clients happy" 😃🤝
In 2018, Supreet Tare and Atul Koshta co-founded Anywhere with one simple goal: to help agency owners efficiently manage their projects, keep clients informed, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the whole project.
Out of the three tools in this article, Anywhere has the most modern and intuitive interface making it super easy to set up and get started. It has the perfect blend of project and client management features. It offers all the essential tools including multiple custom fields, project views, customizable dashboards, templates, and integrations. Additionally, it has a no-login client portal which serves as an interface for real-time chatting, updating, and keeping track of client feedback throughout all projects.
Anywhere is the ideal tool for service-based solopreneurs, agencies, consultancies, and small businesses who need a customer-centric project management tool to stay organized while ensuring maximum client satisfaction.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Project Management
Anywhere’s project management is simple and versatile, ClickUp is complex and customizable, Dubsado can only handle the basics
Anywhere is the most user-friendly, ClickUp feels overwhelming, and Dubsado is the hardest to navigate.
Dubsado’s interface is confusing. It’s hard to understand what each button does and how its features work together. If you’re a new user, you’ll find it difficult to navigate and get used to without watching hours of training videos.
ClickUp's goal to be an all-in-one productivity tool is reflected in the tons of features and options it gives you. However, this results in an overly busy and cluttered interface, making it difficult to learn and use. While the onboarding process is helpful, it’s not enough to get started comfortably. That’s why most teams end up hiring ClickUp consultants to set up their account and train team members to use the platform correctly. That makes the process even longer and more expensive.
Anywhere, unlike ClickUp, doesn’t overwhelm users with non-essential features since it's an specialized project management tool for agencies and freelancers. Its interface is much cleaner, with key icons neatly organized at the top and the section navigation on the left. Additionally, the sharp contrast of the UI makes it easy to visualize different sections of your project space.
New users need little to no support to get started. They can choose to take a simple 6-step onboarding process to get up to speed quickly and get started with planning their projects in only a few minutes.
Anywhere covers all the core functionality, ClickUp has the most extensive features, while Dubsado is extremely limited.
Dubsado’s features make it a task management system at best. You can either create stand-alone tasks or organize them on a Kanban-style board — if your work relies heavily on project management, Dubsado won’t meet your needs.
Unlike Dubsado, Anywhere is built for project management. You can create workspaces for different clients, and create multiple project boards within these workspaces. Project boards are equipped with:
- Custom fields: Text, Date, Priority, Status, Timer, Progress, and more.
- Project views: Table, Kanban, Calendar, and Plan (aka Gantt).
- My Tasks: A dedicated space where each user can track tasks assigned to them, categorized by deadlines.
Unlike ClickUp, Anywhere’s project boards have the following unique features:
- Project baseline: A nifty feature for project managers to track ongoing projects.
- Overview: A customizable project-specific dashboard for creating visual overviews.
Additionally, Anywhere makes it easy to create and visualize tasks that have sub-tasks, recurrence, and reminders.
Similar to Anywhere, ClickUp has all the core project management features such as custom fields, project views, and My Tasks. The only difference is that ClickUp has more options.
For custom fields, there are additional options such as:
- Rating
- Relationships
- Rollups
Additional project views include:
- Map
- Workload
- Whiteboard
- Mind Map
- Form
ClickUp’s home page has a My Tasks view, in addition to a calendar feature, which is helpful for viewing your assigned tasks on a calendar.
Anywhere and ClickUp’s dashboards provide project overviews, while Dubsado gives a summary of business finances.
Unlike ClickUp and Anywhere, Dubsado’s dashboard centers around financial updates including:
- Open invoices
- Financial goal tracking
- Income, Expenses & Profit
ClickUp allows you to create multiple visual dashboards to give you a birds-eye view of specific project details in your workspace. With 50+ widget options, you can design your dashboards for multiple use cases including:
- Business goals tracking
- Project priority breakdown
- Workload management
One stand-out feature here is that you can embed external apps such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and YouTube videos right into your dashboard.
Anywhere has a centralized dashboard to give you a high-level overview of all the projects in your workspace. There are three main views in this space:
- The Projects dashboard helps project managers stay on track by keeping an eye on the percentage progress of all active projects.
- The Clients dashboard helps account managers keep clients happy by tracking customer feedback, and historical & current CSAT scores.
- The custom dashboards can be built with pre-made widgets to give directors, VPs, or CEOs a visual overview of the progress and statuses of all active projects.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Customer Relationship Management
Dubsado is built to manage customer relationships, Anywhere is designed for customer inclusion, and ClickUp can be customized to handle customer relationships
ClickUp’s project board can be customized to internally manage client relationships.
ClickUp is not designed to support client management. However, you can build on ClickUp’s CRM templates to get the job done.
Anywhere’s project board is designed to manage customer relationships via a client portal.
Like ClickUp, Anywhere has CRM templates you can customize to manage customer relationships. Alternatively, you can build them from scratch using the table features.
Unlike ClickUp and Dubsado, Anywhere has a unique feature that allows you to gather customer satisfaction scores and feedback via a client portal, which is unique to each customer.
The scores and feedback gathered from all clients can easily be tracked under the Customers section of the team’s dashboard space. This feature helps account managers keep clients happy, increase customer retention and boost overall business profits.
Dubsado helps you manage your customer journey and make better business decisions.
Unlike ClickUp and Anywhere, Dubsado is built for customer relationship management, with the following key features:
- Lead & client management: track the journey of your leads and clients in the sales pipeline. This makes it easy to see the next critical step (eg. send a follow-up email) for each client, so they don’t slip through the cracks.
- Address book: manage customer data including contact details, notes, and past projects for reference.
Dubsado, similar to Anywhere has a client portal, where you can share relevant documents (proposals, contracts, invoices, etc.) and exchange files with clients. Unlike Anywhere, it doesn’t have a robust feedback system. You can use forms to gather feedback from your clients, though.
Additionally, Dubsado helps you take strategic client management decisions based on the following reports:
- Project sources: track which channels bring in the most number of leads and clients.
- Project breakdown: track which project sources/clients generate the most revenue.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Workflow Automation
Anywhere and ClickUp’s workflow automations enhance task management, while Dubsado’s enhance client experience
With all three tools, you can automate tasks without writing any code.
Dubsado’s workflow automation enhances client onboarding and offboarding.
Dubsado’s unique automation features streamline the client onboarding and offboarding processes for you and your client. You can set up triggers to automate routine tasks such as:
- Sending personalized emails
- Managing proposals, contracts, and invoices
- Scheduling appointments
- Accepting payments
Anywhere's workflow automation handles the basics of task management.
Unlike Dubsado, Anywhere's no-code workflow automation is much easier to set up and is centered around streamlining internal task management. The “if this then that” system (shown in the image below) lets you quickly set up powerful automations. You can use triggers such as:
- New task created or deleted,
- Due date arrival,
- Status changes,
- Priority changes,
- Assignee changes,
- Etc.
And activate actions such as:
- Send notifications,
- Add a comment
- Create/Delete/Move tasks
- Change Status/Assignees,
- And many more.
Additionally, Anywhere comes with 20+ automation recipes to help you get started ASAP.
ClickUp’s workflow automation includes advanced features for task management.
ClickUp, similar to Anywhere, has task-based automations and an “if this then that” system for creating them.
However, ClickUp has more pre-made automation samples, making it easier for new users to get started. Additionally, ClickUp allows for advanced automation flexibility with external apps such as Twilio, Calendly, Github, and Hubspot.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Collaboration & Communication
Dubsado is built for client engagement, ClickUp is built for team engagement, and Anywhere gives you the best of both
Dubsado’s features make it best for client communication & collaboration.
The only way you can collaborate with team members in Dubsado is by leaving text-based comments under tasks.
On the other hand, you can communicate with clients via email and a client portal. If you send emails from Dubsado to your clients, not only do clients receive them in their inboxes, they can also view your emails via the client portal.
ClickUp’s features make it best for team communication & collaboration.
The only way you can involve clients in ClickUp is by inviting them to collaborate on a specific project board or view.
On the flip side, ClickUp has a variety of features to support team communication. You can include voice and screen recordings in your comments, and also start a Zoom meeting. One downside is that the comments section is unorganized. You can easily lose track of comments in a cloud of activity logs.
Outside the comments section, ClickUp has a dedicated chat space where you can hold project-related conversations that may not necessarily fit under a specific task.
Anywhere’s extensive features make it best for both team and client communication & collaboration.
Unlike ClickUp, Anywhere has an organized comment space that’s separate from the activity log. You can easily share screen recordings with the Loom feature. The comment section is divided into four main sections.
- Comments: Add task-specific comments.
- Decisions: Mark comments as decisions to be noted or implemented.
- Blockers: Mark comments as blockers to handle bottlenecks.
- Files: Add files relevant to the task.
Anywhere, similar to ClickUp, allows you to invite clients to specific projects and has a dedicated chat space for project-related discussions. Additionally, this chat space has been designed to easily include clients in ongoing discussions by toggling the private mode on or off.
Anywhere has an updates section for sharing regular progress updates with clients, accessible via their client portal. This eliminates scattered updates shared via text, email, and other channels, and stores all updates in one space. You can customize your updates section with text blocks and widgets, with details about tasks at different stages of completion.
Finally, Anywhere has a unique inbox feature, which allows team members to have direct 1-on-1 conversations with each other or with clients.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Templates
Anywhere has mainly project management templates, ClickUp’s are diverse, and Dubsado’s focused on business management
Dubsado’s templates are tailored to support business operations.
Dubsado has the least templates but they’re designed specifically to help you manage administrative tasks. These include service packages, questionnaires, emails, proposals, contracts, invoices, and payment plans.
Anywhere’s templates are specialized for project management.
Anywhere has over 100+ project management templates for a variety of categories, including remote work, marketing, HR, media production, and time tracking. These templates are pre-filled with sample data and the necessary custom fields, making it simple to tailor them to your own needs.
ClickUp’s templates are generalized for overall productivity.
ClickUp has a diverse set of templates including project management, docs, and whiteboards. While this can be a bit overwhelming, the department filter option and the search bar make it easy to find the exact one you’re looking for.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Integrations
Dubsado and Anywhere have limited native integrations, and ClickUp has an expansive selection
Dubsado’s integrations support business management.
Dubsado’s business management integrations fall under 4 categories: Email, Scheduling, Accounting, and Billing. Some of the most popular apps under these categories include Gmail, Google Calendar, Zoom, QuickBooks, and PayPal. It also supports Zapier integrations.
Anywhere covers the basics of project management.
Anywhere has 5 project management integrations which include calendars (Microsoft and Google), OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive.
Additionally, you can seamlessly connect with 1000+ external apps via its Zapier integration.
ClickUp has the most integrations.
ClickUp has 50+ native integrations including popular ones such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, GitHub, and Hubspot and it also supports Zapier.
Dubsado vs ClickUp vs Anywhere: Pricing
ClickUp has the best free plan, Dubsado is budget-friendly, and Anywhere has the best value for money
ClickUp has a free plan, Dubsado has an unlimited free trial, and Anywhere has a free 7-day trial.
Dubsado’s free trial gives you access to its premier plan with no time limit. However, you can only have a maximum of 3 teammates and 3 clients on the trial.
ClickUp has a generous free version with unlimited team members, unlimited tasks, and access to key project views. However, some features like subtasks and custom fields have a maximum of 100 uses. Additionally, integrations such as Google Drive and Dropbox are disabled, and you have a storage limit of 100MB.
Anywhere has a free 7-day trial across all paid plans — no credit card required. Their Start plan costs only $9.99 a month for up to 10 users flat.
Dubsado is the most affordable, however, it lacks features.
Dubsado has only two pricing plans, which allow you to add unlimited clients. However, each plan allows for a maximum of 3 users, with the option of getting more by paying extra. 4-10 users cost an additional fixed fee of $25/month. 11-20 users cost an extra $45/month and for 20-30 users, you pay an extra $60/month.
Event though it costs less, keep in mind that Dubsado doesn’t have great project management features. That’s why users usually use it for general business management and invest in dedicated project management software in parallel.
Anywhere’s starter plan gives unlimited access to restricted features in ClickUp’s business plans.
Anywhere and ClickUp’s starter plan give you access to key project management features like:
- Unlimited tasks + custom fields
- Unlimited project views
- Unlimited integrations
- Projects dashboard
However, ClickUp limits subtasks and automations, while Anywhere doesn’t.
Anywhere limits your use to 5GB/user on its “Starter” plan, but that’s usually more than enough for small teams. If you need more space, the next best option is the “Grow” plan — it includes 10GB/user (and more advanced features) for a marginally higher price: $16.99/user/mo. And by upgrading to the “Scale” plan ($24.99/user/mo), the limit increases to 15GB/user.
Anywhere’s “Starter” plan includes key project management features that ClickUp only unlocks on its “Business” plan. That’s why it can focus on better customer-centric features on the “Grow” plan:
- Customer feedback tracking
- Full white labeling capabilities
- Customer overview dashboard
